Food and Fun in Phuket Thailand Travel Guide A big party will be thrown for the arriving dignitaries in next month’s Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting, to showcase Phuket as a “Beach Mecca”. The Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Association of Phuket Travel Agents are inviting everyone to join in the “Phuket Fest and Fun” at Patong Beach over the weekend of August 23 and 24. The event will be preceded by the Phuket Lobster Festival, which starts August 15, during which restaurants at Patong Beach will offer a variety of seafood dishes with the emphasis on lobsters, one of Phuket’s emblems. From 7pm to midnight on August 23 and 24, visitors can catch live shows from local bands as TBone, Kala, Soul After Six, Modern Dog and Blackhead. More than 400 people will pour into the beachside street in a fantasy parade on August 23, and a colourful firework show will light up the night sky the following evening. From August 28 to 30, the Pom Prab District Office is celebrating the market’s 103rd anniversary with a series of events, starting with merit-making for 104 monks. You can admire the old wooden architecture and the long-established but abandoned Chalerm Thani cinema and enjoy traditional street performers. There will be storytelling, cooking competitions, cultural tours and other events from 10am to 10pm in front of the old cinema.

Thai Food Competitions Thailand Travel Guide To bring Thai culinary wisdom into the present, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and private-sector participants will host competitions throughout the country for the third year running. This year, new and exciting “fusion” ideas from young chefs will be there to discover. The competitions will be divided into three categories: general public, restaurants and hotels. The first event, for Central and Eastern regions, will be on September 20 at Central City Bangna. Other rounds will be held on October 3 at the Lee Garden Hotel in Hat Yai and on October 18 at The Mall in Nakhon Ratchasima and Chiang Mai at the Central Airport Plaza on November 15.
